- Work as Therapy
I knew my job. I knew what to do and how to address even serious customer problems. Somehow they weren't as crucial anymore, still urgent, but not important relative to my family.
Contrast that with a sick child; I couldn't make him well. I couldn't even solve the problem of finding the medical combinations that would give him back his teenage years. So I was still competent at work, but overwhelmed at home.
Going to work gave me the chance to recover my feelings of competence and the energy to do what I had to/could do for my son.
He's fine now, so we had a happy ending. You will too.
