Excellent topic that rang many bells from my 30 years of work experience. If your top producers are "punished" from going the extra mile, we quickly ask ourselves what's the point and often sink into mediocrity. Sad part is that money alone often does not lead to superior performance in the long-term. It's job satisfaction and recognition that most top-performers want.

Thanks for responding, Daniel. It's surprising how frequently this seems to happen to people. A little effort by the manager goes a long way, and yet that effort is seldom made.
