This week I’m honoring the most difficult job of all time: a soldier. Particularly those who are currently deployed. Putting your life on the line for your country is a gazillion times harder and more honorable than any paper-pushing, lunch-slinging job I’ve ever had. Thank You doesn’t seem to cover it. But…thank you, to all the soldiers out there.
I’ve got a brother-in-law (Hi, Lt. Casey!) in Iraq right now, so all prayers and thoughts in his direction and for his men are greatly appreciated.
Also appreciated was the donation by major league baseball player Dane Sardinha, catcher for the Tigers (formerly of the Reds). He donated a trunk-load (literally—it barely fit in the trunk of our car) of baseball equipment and catcher’s gear to send to the troops for their down time. So thank you, Dane—the soldiers will definitely appreciate it!
Another huge thanks to Casa De Fruta in California, for donating a goody basket to the troops.
Just because the holidays are over, don’t forget our troops overseas. They always appreciate cards, goodies, candy, and letters from anyone who wants to send them. If you don’t know any soldiers personally but wish to send something to our troops, please e-mail me and I can provide you with addresses and names.
In honor of our troops, this week’s column is a poem written by Lou Howard (another brother-in-law) to honor those who are fighting overseas. Check out: Another Soldier Will Come Home.
