Big Tips for Half the Effort

Attention waiters and waitresses: you can slack of at work if you squat by the table. This tip and more. Read on.

Back when I waited tables (which wasn’t actually that long ago, but let’s pretend because I’d really like those days to be firmly behind me), I noticed a dramatic increase in my tips when I started behaving in certain ways that were annoying to me, but magical to the patrons.

I did this when I realized that certain waiters around me were earning much more, yet behaving in ways that I didn’t feel were service-oriented. For instance, spacing out in the back for 20 minutes at a time. Or, having the brain power of a jellyfish. So I went online and looked up ways to earn higher tips, which I compiled into a tidy little list and committed to memory. Sure enough, my average tip went from 15% to 18%, even if I felt a little stupid doing them.

I now pass this knowledge on to you here.

You’re welcome.
