Finding part-time work does not have to be stressful if you follow a few simple guidelines to make a better impression on employers.
Whether you are looking for your first job, or just trying to make ends meet, applying for a part-time job can be a little daunting. Part-time work is a great way to introduce “real-world” experience to young high school or college-aged students. Unfortunately, many individuals are a little naïve or uncomprehending about how to apply for jobs, and what it means to make a quality first impression. It is important to find work you will enjoy, and knowing how to stand out from the application stack can help you find a suitable job to supplement your income. Knowing What Type of Job to Apply For:Picking a job that is a good match for your lifestyle and schedule is crucial. If you have an aversion to working nights and weekends, do not apply at a work place that is open primarily during those hours (i.e. restaurants, bars, etc.). Apply to jobs where your schedule is compatible. If looking for a job in retail, it helps to have at least a general appreciation of the product you will be selling. Do not try to get a job as a bartender if you think alcohol is the devil’s orange juice. Managers want someone who can convincingly sell their product.
